Skin & Threads

Found this lovely label from Melbourne called Skin & threads. The label's philosophy reads: "Skin and Threads concentrates on clean, soft silhouettes that can be worn as separates or layered for a more unconventional aesthetic". Think organic and natural fabrics and edgy basic shapes. I think I might have to stock up on some items.

The pics are from Winter 09 range.

Easy Virtue

Last week I watched the movie Easy Virtue with Jessica Biel, Christine Scott Thomas and Colin Firth. The movie was good but nothing to rave about. the fashion however was fantastic, especially Jessica's beautiful leather jackets with gloves, a scarf and goggles (a-la previous aviation inspired post).
Unfortunately these are the only pics I could find.

Tomboys of the world

Maureen Dunlop
Emilia Earhart
Karen Walker, SS09
Karen Walker, SS09

When I was growing up I was a total tomboy. Dresses, heels and make up were very foreign to me up till the age of 24 or so. I came around with the dresses and most certainly the heels but I'm still not a big fan of make up.

I think I will always love masculine-inspired looks for women and will always be a tomboy at heart. So this week's posts are dedicated to tomboys the world over.

Today's focus: Women in Aviation.

Finds from Arkitip

It's been a while since I've had a look at Arkitip . I still can't get over how good Evan Hecox prints are.
The one above titled Mexico City Print, Version II is my current favourite. It's a virtual steal at 125USD.
I just bought a new MacBook Pro (arrived in the mail today. Yay!) so can't afford anything for a little while.

Also found this organic Arkitip T-shirt . Only available in Medium and Large so too big for me. It can be all your for only 45USD.

Knitty Gritty

I know I'm a bit late for easter but bunnies never go out fashion. Just discovered these adorable knitted creations from Catherine Tough.
Unfortunately the sample patterns section is empty so if you're good with needles and want to make your own you might need to look elsewhere. My dear friend and knitting guru Pia told me about Ravelry which is kinda like Facebook for knitters. So join for free and get your needles clacking.

Vintage boots

Let me share a not-so-secret secret: I LOVE SHOES. Really really really love them. Especially boots. And even more especially riding boots.
These vintage finds are from zaasvintageboots etsy shop. I only put them up since they're not my size. Enjoy.

Made in Brooklyn

Just found this lovely label from Brooklyn called Keller . These pics are from their A/W09 collection. I love the styling, the colours and the simplicity, but most of all I love those boots!
The label doesn't stock in Australia and I'm not due in the U.S. until late this year. What if they are no longer available by then?

I heart Winter

Winter is finally arriving in Melbourne. It's been raining most of yesterday and so far all of today. Last night was even cold enough for me to wear my grey marle cashmere jumper. It turned out to be a mistake though as I managed to get it covered in soy sauce splashes (accidentally dropped my pan-fried pork dumpling in the dipping sauce).
I've been looking at some new jumpers and couldn't get past these covetable chunky creations from Pringle . I've been a Pringle fan since 1997 when I lived in Scotland for 4 months so was ecstatic when the knitwear label was finally revived in time for the new millennium.
These pics are from the Autumn/Winter 09/10 collection:

Where to start

So I've made a decision (again) to start my own thing, but this time I want it to last. I've worked out some goals and guidelines but it's all a bit daunting still. And then I happened upon this great website: Zen Habits and got all the inspiration I needed.
This Beginner's Guide is a great start.

I'm getting started right now, so here's to new beginnings!
